Welcome
We are a group of volunteers and supporters who welcome refugees and asylum seekers to Abingdon with practical support, social events, English classes, and signposting to local services.
Refugees and asylum seekers are forced to flee their homes because of war, famine and persecution. As well as experiencing overwhelming loss and culture shock, they face many obstacles once in the UK.
Small acts of kindness, hospitality and support go a long way in helping people to feel safe and part of the community.
Our approach is to welcome and empower, helping people move towards independence.
We work alongside other groups and organisations like Asylum Welcome and Sanctuary Hosting.
Stay in Touch
If you like our work, then we invite you to stay in touch with Host Abingdon through our quarterly emailed newsletter.

I want to thank all the Abingdon volunteers for your work, your love, and your respect. If I stayed in this city, you are my motivation. Thanks to you, I had joy in my heart, a smile, strength, courage, and determination. As a refugee, I have never felt so honoured and loved by people I don’t know. I have no words to describe my gratitude to you, I have so much to say. It’s true, I’m a little afraid of this new beginning, but I’m ready to take all the steps, I know I’m not alone if I need advice or anything. Thank you so much for your love and your work. We are still together, in short, I will always be there to learn more about integration.
Sincerely, Y
